R481: Talk about your artwork whose content seems very connected to ZKC.

CC: That's a difficult question, because the Other Side to express in words is very complex. As I said earlier, the Fantastic Tangential Atmospheric represents a subtle setting, which manifests itself through a meta-science called Symbolic. Sigils, strange grammar, like the AL'AN alphabet whose origin comes from the subtle consciousness of Sirius B, interact directly with the ZKC, and in my particular case, these complex structures merge into my Initiation that is entirely under Creative bases. I think there is a subtle and profound message from the configuration of my drawings towards the aware viewer so that several people have different reactions to seeing them. The most interesting to note is that these people belong to the most different cultural layers, from politicians to prepared artists.

R481: You can be considered a focus of this Impulse?

CC: Yes, but each Impulse "recognizes" the receiver who is more apt to express it, whether consciously or unconsciously, though not as simple as I am talking about. The Current will inevitably send the receiver’s awareness into increasingly as a kind of reversal of the senses, illuminating the ways of the Unconscious.

R481: In Brazil you are considered by some a pioneer of ZKC and also the 23 Current. Tell us a little about the latter.

CC: No. Certainly there were other artists before me here in Brazil who had a strong approach to the 23 Current as well as other impulses, especially in the early 70's as was said in another part of the interview. Consider some Brazilian artists, which captured the flow of current in some way, nevertheless, unfortunately there is a consistent disclosure about their artwork. For example, Darcílio Lima, Sergio Macedo, Murilo Mendes Guimarães, Octavio Araujo, Jasmine Luis, Walter Dohme, Nelson Godoy, Simone Wagemmaker among others. However, it was an artist from Goiânia, called Maluba that actually captured the effluvia of the 23 Current. One example was the development of a framework, beautiful, based on one of the great horror tales of HP Lovecraft called "Hypnos."
In my particular case, I can say I'm starting a new phase in our land, but could be anyone else that was open to that Impulse. My consciousness is filling up every moment of irradiation and thus had the facility to be a focus of it. But all this is under-seed, for there is much work ahead.
Well, as your question, I would first like to make clear that there is a distinction, although there is a subtle link among them called Creative Art in reference to ZKC which started in the late 40th and the 23 Current that is based on the Cthulhu Mythos, which its focus is Lovecraftian Tradition, it had its operational start in the 1960s after the rescue of a very special Key, and its manifestation occurred when it was released the Manifesto of the Aeon of Cthulhu, so that the EOD has been revived, and the Temple of Dagon re-established, and continues to develop. Aspects of this Current can be captured if the reader-artist to turn to the book Outside the Circles of Time written by Hermetic English author, Kenneth Grant.

R481: Any final message?

CC: Yes. I ask the readers who follow my Blog so called Arte Hermética (Hermetic Art) http://www.artehermetica.blogspot.com/ that is directed to this type of creative art, woven and lived by many artists from past and present on various aspects.
In addition, releasing your mind and travel to the inside, since there is the Silver Key. Good Voyage.

R481: Fale um pouco sobre sua arte cujo teor me parece muito ligado ao ZKC.

CC: Essa é uma pergunta difícil, porque expressar o Outro Lado por meio de palavras é muito complexo. Como falei anteriormente, o Fantástico Atmosférico Tangencial representa uma configuração sutil, que se manifesta por meio de uma meta-ciência chamada Simbólica. Sigilos, gramáticas estranhas, como o alfabeto AL’AN cuja origem provém da consciência sutil de Sírius B, interagem diretamente com o ZKC, e no meu processo em particular, essas complexas estruturas se fundem dentro de minha Iniciação que está sob bases inteiramente Criativas. Creio que há uma sutil e profunda mensagem a partir da configuração dos meus quadros para o observador atento, pois várias pessoas apresentaram reações diferentes ao vê-los. O mais interessante é que estas pessoas pertenciam as mais diferentes camadas culturais, desde políticos até artistas preparados.

R481: Você se pode considerar um foco desse Impulso?

CC: Sim. Mas cada Impulso “reconhece” o receptor que está mais apto para manifestá-lo, seja de maneira consciente ou inconsciente, ainda que não seja de maneira tão simples quanto estou falando. A Corrente vai inevitavelmente encaminhar a consciência do receptor cada vez mais para dentro como uma espécie de inversão dos sentidos, iluminado assim as vias do Inconsciente.

R481: No Brasil você é considerado por algumas pessoas um dos pioneiros do ZKC e também da Corrente 23. Fale-nos um pouco sobre o último.

CC: Não. Com certeza houve outros artistas antes de mim aqui no Brasil que tiveram uma forte aproximação com a Corrente 23 assim como para outros Impulsos, principalmente no início dos anos 70 como foi dito em outra parte da entrevista. Considero alguns artistas brasileiros, infelizmente não há uma divulgação consistente sobre o trabalho deles, que capturaram o fluxo da Corrente de alguma forma. Por exemplo, Darcílio Lima, Sergio Macedo, Murilo Mendes Guimarães, Octavio Araújo, Luís Jasmim, Walter Dohme, Nelson Godoy, Simone Wagemmaker entre outros. Contudo foi uma artista de Goiânia, Maluba, que captou de fato o eflúvio da Corrente 23. Um exemplo disso foi a elaboração de uma quadro, belíssimo, baseado em um dos excelentes contos de H.P. Lovecraft, chamado “Hypnos”.
No meu caso em particular, posso dizer que estou iniciando uma nova fase em nossas terras, mas poderia ser qualquer outra pessoa que estivesse aberto a esse Impulso. Minha consciência se abastece dessa Irradiação a todo instante e assim tive a facilidade de ser um dos focos dela. Mas tudo isso está em fase-semente, pois há muito trabalho pela frente.
Bem, quanto a sua pergunta, gostaria primeiramente em deixar claro que há uma distinção, ainda que exista um elo sutil entre elas chamada Arte Criativa referente ao ZKC iniciado no fim dos anos 40 e a Corrente 23 que é baseada no Mito de Cthulhu, cujo foco é Tradição Lovecraftiana, esta teve o seu início operacional nos anos 60 após o resgate de uma Chave muito especial, e sua manifestação ocorreu quando foi lançado o Manifesto do Æon de Cthulhu, desta forma a Ordem Esotérica de Dagon foi revivida, e o Templo de Dagon re-estabelecido, e continua se desenvolver. Aspectos dessa Corrente podem ser capturados se o leitor-artista se dirigir ao livro Outside the Circles of Time do autor hermetista Inglês Kenneth Grant.

R481: Alguma mensagem final?

CC: Peço aos leitores que acompanhem o meu Blog ARTE HERMÉTICA (http://www.artehermetica.blogspot.com/) que é direcionado a esse tipo de Arte Criativa, tecida e vivida por vários artistas do passado e do presente de diversas vertentes.

R481: For example, we can understand what you are saying about the works of Spare, when he portrayed a whole atmosphere on the other side from the onirical plans and internal. How do you see as an artist the art of Spare often atmaista in his demonstration?

CC: I regard Spare as one of the best painters and designer that I have seen; including much of my artwork is inspired by his lines. Since mere sketches until his final art, AOS projected an aesthetic subtle (Æstesis) in the midst of their traits, as if they were avenues or corridors that this subtle power typified by this aesthetic, go through each nervure on the paper, also a sap that comes completely saturated the plasticity of strange onirical worlds and pregnant of creative energy coming from those oblique internal worlds.

R481: What about his ability to transform the object of his art in another image?

CC: That is one of the biggest evidence that he was a sort of Avatar for a tangible manifestation of this Force.

For example, some of his sketches or pictures presenting busts could show characters both physical and subtle (i.e. tangential) at the same time, as it were overlapping on each other. This subtle way, is not necessarily an eidolon of the bust, but the quintessence that he caught at as it makes a photographic film, it is very sensitive to light and environment. Even the busts or entities that he captured in the plan astral, for many times were pale inhabitants of those worlds showed a subtle emanation behind the traces. And therein lays a key very interesting.

R481: To the layman it is a bit confusing, no?

CC: It's simple, with only one comment attentive to his pictures, the same way as we do to observe the master’s artworks of the past. To observe, perceive and feel. That is the question. Perhaps the layman has to a feeling more fully than the connoisseur, so his/her intellect has much less chance of interfering helping him/her to reach the core of feelings when faced with a masterpiece.

R481: Did Spare use a formula to inspire you in creating of your pictures?

CC: I will not extend by this, but I think I must remove a little of the glamour that revolves around this theme.

His Gnosis was founded by a triad at the same time simple and complex. It is simple, because his method was based on Will, Belief and Desire, concepts almost usual to the ordinary human. It is complex because it is necessary to have a Silver Key to wake them within.

This simple question did penetrate more easily in the inbetweeness concept, that was applied to his Formula or Path so-called The Eclectic Path Between Ecstasies or The Precarious Funambulatory Way. It has a deep relation to his personal Creed, that is, Affirmation Creed of Zos vel Tanatos. As it presents, his momentum took Spare for a deep immersion in the sexual samadhi waking it for a laugh with or without partner. Unfortunately many believe that only the laughter can lead to ecstasy that Spare commented, however when he talks about it, the main indication is a hedonist or orgiastic Gnosis of pure delight, so that it not occur at the beginning, or even into act of started, but on the process itself.

R481: Ok I feel that this will make many readers to think about ... Is there any relationship of Spare with Surrealism? Some believe that there is a close communication between them.

CC: The difficult task of classifying his painting, as surreal, for example, is due to his emancipation to a meta-psychology that dealt two polarities, i.e. Zos and Kia (Hand and Eye). This process led to the highly dynamic glances and insights when they interchanged, and often he caught at the Irradiation so that he manifested it into his art and writing.

I can say that there are various opinions on this subject. What I know is that in the years 30, he had been inspired in the Movement originally created by Andre Breton. This was a moment of great importance to the art, because there is a kind of rebirth of the soul, through the hypnagogic practices, hashish, opium that many started to use at the time.

However, a phase of his art was appointed by him as Siderrealism or Sideral Realism. This is a point that many do not pay attention correctly, which is the reflection of the doctrine of Sunnyata or Void. How many should know, AOS was very intense in his reading in reference to Tao Te King. Many of these teachings are set out in The Book of Pleasure, Zoetic Grimoire of ZOS, Logomaquia of Zos and so on.

Another thing to mention here it is given evidence that all the work of Spare, there is nothing to do with such "magic of the result" that many still apply everywhere. This is a typical distorted vision of his personal system; they are people who want to build a house on quick-sand. (Laughing).

In short, I prefer to think that AOS paved the path in such way so subtle for the coming of the Surrealism; it is only see his drawings from 1905.

R481: Would you like something to talk about the sigils that are recorded in many of his paintings.

CC: This is a topic usual, but already put into question. The structuring of secrets or Grammar of Wizards arose through subtle impulse when did occur the encounter with a powerful witch call Ms Yelda Patterson (or Yelg). This meeting did affect profoundly the subconscious of a juvenile Spare yet, and it was heavily marked throughout his life.

According to the narrative, Kenneth Grant, Against the Light, she was one of the Avatars of a witch in the sixteenth century that had been direct contact with the Deep Ones, but ended up being convicted by the court of Suffolk.

They say Mrs. Patterson did pass on a very special power to Spare and from that moment various innate skills arose quickly from his subconscious. However, some researchers said recently about that the existence of the witch and even the Zos Kia Cultus, may have been a great invention of Kenneth Grant. Who knows?

R481: A final consideration?

CC: For those interested in Spare I recommend at least four books, as well of course, of his writings.

R481: Por exemplo, podemos perceber o que você está dizendo nas obras de Spare, quando ele retratou toda aquela atmosfera do outro lado, dos planos oníricos e internos. Como você vê, já que é um artista, a arte de Spare, muitas vezes atmaísta em sua demonstração?

CC: Considero Spare como um dos melhores pintores e também desenhista que eu já vi, inclusive muito do meu trabalho é inspirado em suas linhas. Desde meros esboços até sua arte final, AOS projetava uma estética sutil (Æstesis) nos meandros dos seus traços, como se fossem avenidas ou corredores que este poder sutil tipificado por esta estética, percorresse cada nervura do papel, igual uma seiva que vem completamente saturada de plasticidade dos estranhos mundos oníricos e prenhes de energia criativa vindo daqueles oblíquos mundos internos.

R481: E sobre sua capacidade de transformar o objeto de sua arte em outra imagem?

CC: Essa é uma das maiores provas de que ele foi uma espécie de Avatar para a manifestação tangível dessa Forças.

Por exemplo, alguns dos seus esboços ou quadros apresentando bustos podiam tanto apresentar características físicas e sutis (i.e. tangenciais) ao mesmo tempo, como se sobrepostas. Esta forma sutil, não é necessariamente um eidolon do busto, mas a quintessência que ele captava como faz uma película fotográfica, pois esta é muito sensível à luz e ao ambiente. Mesmo os bustos ou entidades que ele captou no plano astral, habitantes daqueles pálidos mundos, havia uma emanação sutil por detrás dos traços. E aí reside uma chave muito interessante.

R481: Para o leigo isso fica um pouco confuso, não?

CC: É simples, apenas com uma observação atenta aos seus quadros, da mesma forma como fazemos ao observar as obras dos mestres do passado. Observar, Perceber e Sentir. Eis a questão. Talvez o leigo tenha até uma sensação mais plena do que o conhecedor, assim o seu intelecto tem muito menos chance de interferir ajudando-o a chegar ao âmago das sensações ao se deparar com uma obra mestra.

R481: Spare usou alguma fórmula para inspirá-lo na criação dos seus quadros?

CC: Eu não me estenderei por esta via, mas acho que devo retirar um pouco do glamour que gira em torno deste tema.

Seus estados de Gnose eram antes de tudo embasados por uma tríade ao mesmo tempo simples e complexa. Simples porque seu método era baseado em Anelo, Vontade e Crença, conceitos quase usuais para os seres humanos comuns. Complexa, porque é necessário ter a Chave de Prata, para despertá-las em nosso interior.

Esta simples pergunta penetrou mais facilmente no conceito de intervalo interior, que foi aplicada em sua Fórmula ou Caminho chamado O Caminho Eclético Entre Êxtases ou O Precário Caminho Fonambulatório. Este tem uma profunda relação com seu Credo pessoal, que é o Credo de Afirmação de Zos vel Tanatos. Segundo se apresenta, seu impulso levava Spare para uma profunda imersão no samadhi sexual que ele despertava por um riso ou gargalhada com ou sem parceiro. Infelizmente muitos acham que o riso ou gargalhada pode levar ao êxtase que Spare comentava, no entanto quando ele fala sobre isso, o principal indicativo é, uma Gnose hedonista ou orgástica de puro deleite, ou seja, não é no início, ou mesmo no ato de iniciar, mas no processo em si.

R481: Ok. Sinto que isso fará muitos leitores pararem para pensar... Há alguma relação de Spare com o Surrealismo? Alguns acreditam que há uma comunicação muito estreita entre ambos.

CC: A difícil tarefa de classificar sua pintura, como surrealista, por exemplo, se deve a sua emancipação a uma meta-psicologia que abarcava duas polaridades, Zos e Kia (Mão e Olho). Esse processo altamente dinâmico o levava a relances e insights quando elas se intercambiavam, e muitas vezes a Irradiação que ele captava disso era manifestada na sua arte e escrita.

Posso dizer que existem várias opiniões sobre este tema. O que eu sei é que nos anos 30, ele realmente tinha se inspirado no Movimento criado originalmente por Andre Breton. Este foi um momento de grande importância para a Arte, pois houve um tipo de renascimento da alma, através das práticas hipnogógicas, haxixe, ópio que muitos começaram a usar.

Contudo, uma fase de sua arte foi nomeada por ele como Siderrealismo ou Realismo Sideral. Este é um aspecto que muitos não se dão conta, que é o reflexo da doutrina do Sunnyata ou Vazio. Como muitos devem saber, AOS foi intenso em sua leitura no Tao Te King. Muitos destes ensinamentos estão expostos no The Book of Pleasure, Zoetic Grimoire of AOS, Logomaquia of Zos entre outros.

Outra coisa a citar aqui, é que todo o trabalho de Spare, nada tem haver com a tal “magia do resultado” que muitos ainda aplicam por aí. Essa é uma típica visão deturpada do seu sistema pessoal, são pessoas que querem construir uma casa sobre areia movediça. (risos).

Resumindo, eu prefiro achar que AOS pavimentou de forma sutil o Caminho para a vinda do Surrealismo, é só ver os seus desenhos a partir de 1905.

R481: Alguma coisa para falar sobre os sigilos que estão gravados em muitos dos seus quadros.

CC: Este é um tópico usual, mas já colocado em questionamento. A estruturação dos sigilos ou Gramática dos Feiticeiros surgiu através do impulso sutil quando ocorreu o encontro com uma poderosa feiticeira chamada Sra Yelda Patterson (ou Yelg). Esse encontro afetou profundamente o subconsciente de um Spare ainda juvenil, e ficou fortemente marcado por toda a sua vida.

Segundo a narrativa de Kenneth Grant em Against the Light, ela foi uma das Avatares de uma bruxa no século XVI que tinha contatos diretos com os Deuses das Profundezas, mas acabou sendo condenada pela corte de Suffolk.

Dizem que Sra. Patterson transmitiu um poder muito especial para Spare e que a partir daí várias aptidões inatas afloraram rapidamente do seu subconsciente. No entanto, alguns pesquisadores, disseram recentemente, que a existência da bruxa e inclusive, do Zos Kia Cultus, pode ter sido uma grande invenção de Kenneth Grant. Quem sabe?

R481: Uma consideração final?

INTERVIEW WITH CLÁUDIO CARVALHO

This is the first part of a series of three, for a chat with Claudio Carvalho, in early 2008.

I am a guest of my dear friends and entertainers, Cláudio Carvalho and Lília Palmeira, to delight me into an ecological paradise, a region 63% covered by the Atlantic Forest, where there is a vast flora and fauna with great exuberance.

As they say around here, "in the foot of the mountain" two people interesting living together with their three cats blacks, dozens of pictures, books and many books on various topics, mainly linked to Occult Tradition.

Amid the good smoking pipe and tasting a Cherry Cavendish of Borkun Riff (Cláudio smoke pipe), at the end of a summer afternoon, is before me a hermetist that I am happy to visit once a month for a good conversation and appreciating the Nature of the region.

We started our interview with the art, more specifically on Occult Art which is not restrained by the "laws of safety" of academicism, but able to transgress the ways standardized and almost mechanical conventional models, with its obvious exceptions, and for those who have an good knowledge artistic, knows what I am talking about.

This brief interview passes through the avenues of this fascinating and mysterious art, which they called the Hermetic Art.

Cláudio Carvalho exposes in a way very aware the subtle intricacies to their demonstration, besides a great connoisseur about the subject, he speaks a bit of artwork of Austin Osman Spare and the creation of a new conception of art with formative elements from aesthetics tangential that led to participate and interact with Irradiation of Zos Kia Cultus.

I hope so; the reader can enjoy the rich information for your personal process, and given by someone who actually lives and breathes art.

I wish to the reader a good lesemysterium (a mystery that someone experiences while being read anything that rapport to the deep layers of the psyche).

R481: What is your view on the Occult Art?

CC: Well, I think that Hermetic Art would be a better definition ...

My experience has led me to observe that the 'need for forms' from a quintessence artistic comes through a central irradiation which is responsible for a perfect demonstration on paper, or into any other type of material, because the art has its many aspects. The means of giving form to the invisible will be via the operation from the artist's creativity . This occurs through a deep congress of the artist to the Outside, that is, to that which is called the Unconscious usually. But this Unconscious, see it as U capital, has nothing to do with collective unconscious, but with the inner planes.

This type of Art breaks with the symmetries imposed by the major academies of art that have been introduced in the 17th till 19th century with the premise that the "real" is completely harmonious, soft, symmetrical in all directions and so on.

The big problem is localized on the difference from dimensions that is covered by creative artists , and they are against the laws of “Aristotelian logic."

R481: For example, nor all the people are aware about the existence of these dimensions. How an artist can do to penetrate on these planes of the Unconscious?

CC: I do not believe that any artist can simply enter on these dimensions. For my own experience and observation, the artist must to get some features that are relevant for their captures these energies, but for all, there must be a constant inner work, a thorough distillation of their mind and acquire enormous courage to dive in those waters, because many times they can do the incautious wreck inevitably. There are countless examples of this wreck with many artists from several periods who studied in the books.

R481: Do you think that Brazilian artists had obtained to capture this? In other countries it is at least more visible.

C.C.: Yes, definitely. Great artists in the 70 years found a vast source of Irradiation, perhaps even due to period's influence, firstly very troubled because of the dictatorship in our country; secondly that tension atmosphere opened some subtle cracks that allowed such contact to a few artists able to perceive it.

For example, the first Planet Magazines (published as booklets in Brazil) launched excellent artists, but which unfortunately have not been properly recognized, and of course, much less for the academies. I must emphasize here that the first edition of the Planet Magazine in Brazil was published in 1972, this "coincided" with the publication in England of The Magical Revival of English hermetist, Kenneth Grant. As the title shows, this period was rich in magical renaissance so that has influenced and given access to other great artists to interact closely with the main Source of Emanation.

LP: at the time there were galleries that have been even directed to that which was called fantastic art ...

R481: Can you mention some names?

CC: Among those who showed their art on Planet Magazine are Sergio Macedo, who unfortunately is no longer linked to this artwork, Maluba which provided a wonderful drawing to Planet Magazine based on a Lovecraftian history, Darcílio Lima, that into my viewpoint was a great artist, and who died without the public recognition. Even those interested in this type of art, had never heard of him or about his paintings. He met in the 70 years, Salvador Dali, who was impressed with the forms expressed on paper by this genius of oblique lines. Lília and I think one day will publish a few words of his history and some of his pictures, which are now quite valued.

There are also other artists outside the occult scenery, as João Cândido Portinari, Juarez Machado that the Rede Globo (Brazilian TV) has cleaved also in the 70 years and Kim Poor who portrayed fantastically some primitive landscapes of our forestry.

I would like say on the opportunity that I have here, to quote two excellent sculptors; they are Wagner Moloch and Alexandre Jorge. We are in contact with these two geniis sculptors, Moloch into his artwork defines its aliens, mythological forms and supernatural through bones and other materials, and Alexandre is expert in papietagem (a branch of papier maché), which can give very realistic ways to his work, we have seen one of his genial creations as a mummy into natural size. These are linked to this source that transcends the virtual into real, invisible into visible to delight intensively the energy from this Source that it is manifested into their consciousness. And I must mention my wife, Lília, who produced a series called TIFONIANA which is published in its entirety on her blog of art, Worlds into Watercolors.

R481: Could you explain how or in which way these "types" manifested into various ways of art?

C.C.: It is a good question. These forms are demonstrated through an interpenetration of dimensions, or an intense confluence of energies from the Unconsciousness into the artist’s consciousness, but as I said before, it is necessary to have some kind of innate ability which is a skill often dormant and can be awaken by an accident or even through certain practices that are consistent and in according to the their Nature. In the area of writing I mention people like Rimbaud; he used absinth, sex and hashish for excitement and unloading of the senses, and Marcel Proust that through old memories applied his formula of Nostalgia, so well demonstrated in his excellent histories. Some use entheogens for get those moments without interference from the Ego, and to transgress the slavery of the mind coupled with a drastic release of the senses into minutes. Dali used much masturbation in order to open the doors of his critical obsessive paranoia and others simply uses inspiration and surrenders to their Self.

R481: Interesting you mention writers ...

C.C.: Absolutely. An excellent example of what I am talking about is concerning to the Grimoires. Its occult meaning is the use of a Holy Grammar that has an independent life, however is necessary a talisman for its manifestation. In this case, into my viewpoint, I see two of them: the artist as a vehicle & the paper being the basis or pentacle for its final event.

A living example applicable to this explanation aforementioned happened with the late Andrew Chumbley, a scholar and Magister of one of the most branches of the Nameless Arte. He said about that in an interview with Michael Howard and Robert Fitzgerald: I have never sought to write books ‘about’ magic, but rather to write books – to reify texts and images which are vessels for spirits, powers and specialized kinds of knowledge. Such books are genuine Grammars of the Arte and are possessed of a life beyond the apparent manifestations of author, reader, page and ink.

In short, if the spirits materialize (i.e. taken the awareness) saturated for an intense energy that comes from the Source of Emanation, crossing various levels of consciousness so that it occurs its "densification" and thus through the ink, paper, voice, dance, musical instruments, clay, bones, or any other material available to the artist, there are casting among all elements involving the process from beginning to the end. Kenneth Grant once told me: I think you will understand the gist of these remarks when I liken the difference as between the photograph of a man and the actual man, moving and speaking to you in a living interchange of ideas. Something like this, so if you can understand me ...

ENTREVISTA COM CLÁUDIO CARVALHO

Esta é a primeira parte de uma série de três, referente a um bate papo com Cláudio Carvalho que aconteceu agora, no início de 2008.

Estou em um paraíso ecológico, uma região 63% coberta pela Mata Atlântica, habitada por vasta fauna e uma flora de grande exuberância.

Como dizem por aqui, “no pé da montanha” vivem duas pessoas interessantes juntos com seus três gatos negros, dezenas de quadros, e livros muitos livros sobre diversos temas, principalmente ligados a Tradição Oculta.

Em meio a uma boa cachimbada saboreando um Cherry Cavendish da Borkun Riff (Cláudio fuma cachimbo), no final de uma tarde de verão, está diante de mim um hermetista que fico feliz por poder de visitar uma vez por mês para uma boa conversa apreciando a Natureza da região.

Iniciamos nosso bate papo com a Arte, mais especificamente sobre Arte Oculta que não é cerceada pelas “leis de segurança” do academicismo, mas apta a transgredir as formas padronizadas e quase mecânicas dos modelos convencionais, óbvio com suas exceções, e para quem tem um bom conhecimento artístico, sabe do que estou falando.

Esta breve entrevista, passa pelas avenidas desta fascinante e misteriosa Arte, a qual eles denominaram de Arte Hermética.

Cláudio Carvalho expõe de uma maneira muito consciente os meandros sutis para sua manifestação, além de ser um grande conhecedor do assunto, ele fala um pouco do trabalho artístico de Austin Osman Spare e da criação de uma nova concepção de Arte com os elementos formativos de uma estética tangencial que o levou a participar e interagir com a Irradiação do Zos Kia Cultus.

Espero assim, que o leitor possa usufruir destas ricas informações para o seu processo pessoal, e dado por alguém que realmente vive e respira Arte.

Desejo ao leitor um bom lesemysterium (um mistério que alguém experimenta enquanto se estar lendo alguma coisa que o reporte a camadas profundas da psique).

R481: Qual é a sua visão sobre a Arte Oculta?

C.C.: Bem, eu acho que Arte Hermética seria uma melhor definição...

Minha experiência me levou a observar que a ‘necessidade de formas’ de uma quintessência artística provém de um centro de irradiação que é responsável por uma perfeita manifestação no papel, ou em qualquer outro tipo de material, pois a arte possui suas muitas vertentes. Os meios de conferir forma ao invisível, será sempre via a operação criativa do artista. Isso se dá através de um profundo congresso do artista com as Forças de Fora, ou seja, do que costumeiramente se denominou de Inconsciente. Porém, este Inconsciente, com I maiúsculo, nada tem a ver com inconsciente coletivo, mas com os planos interiores.

Este tipo de Arte rompe com as simetrias impostas pelas grandes academias de arte que foram instauradas nos séculos XVII e XIX com a premissa de que a “verdadeira” é completamente harmônica, suave, simétrica em todos os sentidos e assim por diante.

O grande problema está na diferença de dimensões que são percorridas pelos artistas criativos, e estas são contra as leis da “lógica aristotélica”.

R481: Por exemplo, nem todos sabem da existência dessas dimensões. Como um artista pode penetrar nestes planos do Inconsciente?

C.C.: Não creio que todo artista possa penetrar simplesmente nessas dimensões. Por minha própria experiência e observação, o artista tem que ter algumas características que são pertinentes para tal captação dessas energias, mas de todo, deve haver um trabalho interno constante, uma profunda destilação de sua mente e adquirir uma enorme coragem em mergulhar nessas águas, pois muitas vezes elas podem fazer o incauto naufragar inevitavelmente. Existem inúmeros exemplos desse naufrágio entre os muitos artistas de várias épocas que estudamos nos livros.

R481: Você acha que artistas brasileiros conseguiram esta captação? Em outros países isso é, pelo menos, mais visível.

C.C.: Sim, claro. Grandes artistas da década de 70 encontraram farto manancial dessa Irradiação, talvez até mesmo pelo período, por um lado muito conturbado devido à ditadura em nosso país, por outro essa atmosfera envolta em tensão abriu algumas fendas sutis que permitiram esse contato a alguns artistas aptos a esta Irradiação.

Por exemplo, as primeiras Revistas Planetas (publicadas na forma de pequenos livretos) lançaram excelentes artistas, mas que infelizmente não foram devidamente reconhecidos, e obviamente, muito menos pelas academias. Tenho de ressaltar aqui que a primeira edição da revista Planeta no Brasil, em 1972, “coincidiu” com a publicação na Inglaterra do The Magical Revival do hermetista Inglês, Kenneth Grant. Como o próprio título mostra, esse período foi riquíssimo no renascimento mágico que influenciou e deu acesso a outros grandes artistas para interagirem intimamente com a principal Fonte de Emanação.

L.P.: haviam mesmo galerias direcionadas para o que, na época, chamavam arte fantástica...

R481: Pode citar alguns nomes?

C.C.: Entre aqueles que apresentaram sua arte na Revista Planeta estão Sergio Macedo, que infelizmente não está mais ligado a essa forma de Arte, Maluba que disponibilizou um magnífico quadro à revista Planeta baseado em uma história Lovecraftiana, Darcílio Lima, este a meu ver um estupendo artista, e que morreu sem o grande público conhecê-lo. Mesmo aqueles interessados nessa Arte, jamais tinham ouvido falar dele ou sobre seus quadros. Ele conheceu na década de 70, Salvador Dali, que ficou impressionado com as formas manifestadas no papel por este gênio das linhas oblíquas. Eu e Lília pensamos um dia publicar um pouco de sua história e alguns dos seus quadros, que hoje estão bastante valorizados.

Também existem outros artistas fora do cenário oculto, como João Cândido Portinari, Juarez Machado que a Rede Globo fez despontar também na década de 70 e Kim Poor que retratou fantasticamente paisagens primitivas dos nossos silvícolas.

Gostaria da oportunidade que tenho aqui, de citar dois excelentes artistas na área da escultura, são eles, Wagner Moloch e Alexandre Jorge. Estamos em contato com esses dois geniais escultores, Moloch define suas formas extraterrestres, mitológicas e sobrenaturais através de ossos e outros materiais, e Alexandre é perito em papietagem, com a qual consegue conferir formas extremamente realistas a seus trabalhos, como pudemos constatar na criação genial de sua múmia em tamanho natural. Esses estão ligados a essa Fonte que transcende o virtual em real, e o invisível em visível para saborearmos intensamente a energia dessa Fonte que se manifesta na consciência deles. E não posso deixar de citar a Lília, que produziu uma série chamada TIFONIANA que está publicada em sua inteireza no seu blog de arte, Mundos em Aquarelas.

R481: Você poderia nos explicar como ou de que maneira estas “formas” se manifestam, nos diversos tipos de arte?

C.C.: Essa é uma boa pergunta. Estas formas se manifestam através de uma interpenetração de dimensões, ou seja, uma intensa confluência das energias do Inconsciente com o consciente do artista, mas como disse antes, é necessário haver algum tipo de aptidão que é uma inata habilidade freqüentemente adormecida e que pode despertar por um acidente ou mesmo através de determinadas práticas que estejam de acordo com a Natureza do artista. Na área da escrita temos Rimbaud que utilizava absinto, sexo e haxixe para excitação e descarregamento dos sentidos, e Marcel Proust que através de curtos sonos aplicava sua fórmula de Nostalgia, tão bem demonstrada em seus excelentes romances. Alguns utilizam enteógenos para momentos de ausência do ego, e transgredir o sentido de escravidão da mente aliado a uma drástica liberação dos sentidos em poucos minutos. Dali utilizou muito a masturbação para abrir as portas de sua obsessiva paranóia crítica e outros simplesmente usam inspiração e entrega ao seu Self.

R481: Interessante você citar escritores...

C.C.: Com certeza. Um exemplo do que estou falando são os Grimórios. Seu significado interno seria o uso de uma Gramática Sagrada que possui vida própria, mas que é necessário um talismã para sua manifestação. Neste caso, sob meu ponto de vista, vejo dois deles: o artista como veículo & o papel sendo a base ou pantáculo para sua manifestação definitiva.

Um exemplo vivo disso se deu com o falecido Andrew Chumbley, um erudito e Magister de uma das vertentes da Arte Sem-Nome. Ele disse em uma entrevista com Michael Howard e Robert Fitzgerald o seguinte: “Eu nuca procurei escrever livros ‘sobre’ magia, mais do que escrever livros mágicos – procuro reificar textos e imagens que são canais para espíritos, poderes e tipos especializados de conhecimento. Tais livros são genuínas Gramáticas da Arte e são possuídos de uma vida além das aparentes manifestações do autor, leitor, página e tinta”.

Resumindo, os espíritos se materializam (i.e. tomada de consciência) saturados de uma intensa energia que provém da Fonte de Emanação, perpassando vários níveis de consciência, até ocorrer sua “densificação” e assim através da tinta, papel, voz, dança, instrumentos musicais, argila, ossos, ou qualquer outro material disponível ao artista, há fundição entre todos os elementos que envolvem o processo do início ao fim. Como uma vez Kenneth Grant me disse: Eu acho que você entenderá a seiva dessas notas quando eu comparar a diferença entre a fotografia de um homem e um homem real, movendo e falando com você dentro de um intercambio vivo de idéias.

Fantastic Atmospheric Tangential - A small definition

Fantastic - What only has existence into the imagination; existing into the imagination.

Atmospheric - The air and the environment; the sky. Gases surrounding the Earth, i.e. Oxygen & Azote = Nitrogen.

Tangential – Related to tangent - Line or other surface area that comes at one point.

Fantastic Atmosphere Tangent reflects a subjective communication, though direct, between the visible and invisible, through which named as atmospheric plastos, which is manifested into æsthesis perceived or impress with into awake consciousness by the fantastic or somehow the personal imaginary from the artist. These impressions are integrated in this way as spirits in the frame paper, reificating images and opening new doors towards Quintessential Source (Azote of Wises).
The objective Form appears with Its Real Essence without losing the subtle perspectives from the Non-form. Thus, the lines and traces of my art can express a "purely aesthetic tangential" that interpenetrate dimensions merging two kind of universes, the manifested and imanifested.
Let this new and ancient art is a gateway for new imaginary beam paving the way for a ultimate reality that is outside of spacetime.

Fantástico Atmosférico Tangencial - Uma pequena definição

Fantástico – Aquilo que só tem existência na imaginação; existente no imaginário.

Atmosférico – O ar que respiramos; o ambiente; o céu. Envoltório gasoso da Terra, i.e. oxigênio & azoto = nitrogênio.

Tangencial – Relativo à tangente – Linha ou superfície que toca outra superfície num só ponto.

Fantástico Atmosférico Tangencial reflete uma comunicação subjetiva, ainda que direta, entre o visível e o invisível, através do que denominei plastos atmosféricos, que se manifesta na æsthesis percebida ou impressa na consciência desperta via o fantástico ou de certa forma o imaginário pessoal do artista. Essas impressões são desta maneira integradas como espíritos nas tramas do papel, reificando imagens e abrindo novas portas para uma Fonte Quintessêncial (Azoto dos Sábios).

A Forma objetiva surge com sua Real Essência sem perder as perspectivas sutis da Não-Forma. Assim, as linhas e traços de minha Arte podem manifestar uma “estética puramente tangencial” que interpenetra dimensões fundindo dois tipos de universos, o manifestado e o imanifestado.

Que esta nova e antiga arte seja um portal para novos feixes do imaginário abrindo caminho para uma realidade ultimal que está fora do tempo-espaço.

MY CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT THE ZOS KIA CULTUS

The Zos Kia Cultus has a rich and fascinating perspective which must be explored in the depths of the sub-consciousness. It shows how the continuing attraction of irrational can embody unperceived on a subtle iconography from sacred Spirit – our Iconoclast – in several ways and possibilities.

Zos Kia Cultus as a Current is a common sense for several people and it is still widely used as a term by occult art’s critics, writers, scholars and even artists. Nevertheless, through my experience and natural surrender to my Art I perceived about brevity of this term aforementioned as I have been penetrating in psychology of the Void or KIA. My natural linking in past lives to Typhonian Tradition lead me back to a specifically evaluation of what could be this ablaze impulse so-called Zos Kia Cultus.

According to my point of view, Zos Kia is a rich, powerful and still vital language of images and styles in which comes to represent a deep-rooted inner ‘systems’ from individual as a whole organism sentient encompassing millions ideas and contexts in ONE. Thus the individual can liberate intense primal atavisms latent in the depths of his/her sub-consciousness. Thereby, this powerful impulse can provide a profound disruption of the senses which lies on unwanted emotional and psychological. These unwanted states are restrictive agents of the persona because they take the benefit of conventional nominalization and mentality so that it can be easily expressed along the cruelty of the barriers of the rational contributing to a stupid personality cult with him/her and the others as well.

To express Zos Kia as a Current and nothing else, it would be exactly the understanding about the Expressionism term like “pathetical ism” abrogating so its own expression and genuine meaning.

Both AOS and Kenneth Grant covered a root without form so that a lot of people fell down on this ‘pitfall’, in truth, in trickery for themselves, of course.

Through this fantastic impulse AOS and Grant started in 1952 a new period of artistic manifestation which it continues until today through the several artists around the world, a lot of people still continue to use this vital language or magical grammar (I named it as “Plastos Atmosféricos” – “Atmospheric Plastos” in English) as an expedient able to manifest this “Plastos Atmosféricos” to the visible in turn to take its obscure form embodying in the flesh of the artist’s soul. Nevertheless, we must bear in mind; anybody can abut it for themselves, no, it is impossible, because we are only vehicle of it.

We must don’t forget about one thing, Zos Kia or any Genuine Impulse of Power has been on continual development. Each creative mind upon this planet that is linked to the core of the Supreme Emanation, in fact, becomes a powerful channel of the Zos Kia and of another ancient and contemporary Gnosis only to receive it and pass on it again and again.

I will quote a short sentence that shall not be surprise for some people who share Nothingness, the Neither-Neither as Mr. Gavin Semple, a genuine expert in AOS, once pointed out one important mention that synthesized the Zos Kia Cultus:

“The moment remains – the transmission continues.”

CLÁUDIO CARVALHO - English Version

Since my childhood I always had been of some way in constant contact with subtle alien forces that surrounded the human being in the astral ambience or innermost of him/her. Afterwards, I was revealing my contacts with these energies more conscious and a deep way, focusing strange images that inhabited the vast field of the subconscious. Also, I always liked of macabre films and gothic magazines that of some way influenced my drawings directly, these drawings started almost uncertainty, however, they always finished taking forms still in the first sketches.

I had several rapports with these Intelligences, I had been portrayed them in various sketches, but all had unfortunately been lost, thus I don’t have any available copy.

At that time, my father stimulated me to get more contacts with them so that he believed on existence of Intelligences coming of Outer, piously.

In 1982 I got the first contact with the man called Aleister Crowley through the book so-called Fronteiras do Desconhecido (maybe it were translated to the English as Frontiers of the Unknown) published by Reader’s Digest. However, it was a few years later that I got a closest association with the Crowleyan material. I could see with certain amazement and attraction a wonderful “Black Eagle” drawing done by Austin Osman Spare and published on an old magazine so-called Planeta (its original issue is French – Planète) this meeting was very important for me both in magical and artistically contexts. Meanwhile, I got also a special association with the Tarot and its sheets, mainly in reference to Thoth Tarot Cards elaborated and painted by two important persons, Aleister Crowley and Frieda Harris, it shows a wonderful and complex pictography of which I loved at first glance.

In early 90s, I was initiated for a High Priestess of the Old Religion, wherefore this event opened important Gateways in order to deal with determined entities of the Ancient Ways. Meanwhile my art already was denser it was led forth for the abundant flux coming of 93 Current and Zos Kia Cultus. Thus, it opened a new phase of transfiguration of the lines and tones in W&B on my drawings.

In 1996, I was married an exceptional artist and philosopher woman so that she orientated me in the artistically field aiding me to perfect the details in precision and harmony, despite of perceptible asymmetry enclosed on my pictures. Since then, Lília Palmeira, comes managing my art towards new models of working.

In 1998, my art took new dimensions so that I could perceive the irradiation of a powerful Current which I had always been in contact whilst I was unaware of it. It is so-called in the Occult Tradition as “Transplutonian Emanation”, its existence is effective since immemorial times. Around that time I got my first contacts with the Typhonian O.T.O. (Ordo Templi Orientis or Order Typhonian Occult). In a particular letter of Kenneth Grant, he spoke about his opinion concerning to my artwork: “It is very strong, and shows a fine sense of atmosphere.”

He sent me a pamphlet announcing a publication, at the time, of his newest book about AOS so-called Zos Speaks! Encounters with Austin Osman Spare for my improvement in the occult art. It was a grateful surprise as I received his reply. Since then, I was becoming acquainted with the art of Austin Spare so that I materialized in fact my entrance in the Zos Kias Cultus, that is to say, treading Its impulse and irradiation.

Today, I see that my art followed in parallel my magical career so that it‘s an evident fact for me. Due to my surrender I can delivery a correct use to both black lead and ink pen, my drawings appears by a perfect automatism disclosing of a direct way without interference of the mind there being a pureness that is traced for my Wish, Will and Belief, thereafter my art discloses in fantastical onirical kingdoms.

My drawings portray the layers deepest of my subconscious mind, thus each image will count pregnant forms of spirits which need of pentacles to take form into each paper serving as a complex base aiding their manifestations, from the unseen to the visible. The traces are manifested and directed by tangential forces so that they are situated between oblique worlds. From these distant and strange landscapes they continue to arise of unlikely lines what I call it as something out of control, beyond ours restrictions or “Fantastic Atmospheric Tangential”.

Desde minha infância sempre estive em contato com forças sutis que fazem parte do ambiente astral que cerca o homem ou em seu aspecto mais interior, e assim fui me tornando cada vez mais cônscio destas energias onde pude focar imagens que habitavam meu subconsciente. Houve determinadas influências importantes para a manifestação destas camadas ocultas do meu interior como, por exemplo, os filmes e revistas macabras que eu colecionava, eles inspiravam meus desenhos de modo que tomavam forma rapidamente. Tive diversos contatos com estas Inteligências e as esbocei por muitas vezes, mas infelizmente a maior parte está perdida. Meu pai sempre me estimulou nestes contatos, pois ele acreditava piamente na existência de Inteligências extraterrestres.

Em 1982 tive meu primeiro contato com um homem chamado Aleister Crowley através do livro Fronteiras do Desconhecido publicado pela Reader’s Digest. Uns poucos anos depois eu obtive uma associação mais próxima com o material Crowleyano.

O meu primeiro contato com o Zos Kia Cultus foi através de uma das edições da revista Planeta, onde constatei com assombro e atração o desenho de “Águia Negra” feito por Austin Osman Spare. Neste ínterim adquiri uma especial associação com o Tarô e suas lâminas, principalmente com referencia ao Tarô de Thoth de Crowley/Harris. O meu primeiro modelo foi a edição de 1978 conhecida como “Green Thoth” e publicada pela US Games Systems. A sua maravilhosa e complexa pictografia me fascinaram a primeira vista.

No início dos anos 90, fui iniciado por uma sacerdotisa da Velha Religião, por conseguinte este evento abriu importantes Portais para que eu pudesse lidar com determinadas entidades dos Velhos Caminhos. Por esta época minha arte já estava mais densa de modo que ela estava sendo guiada pelo fluxo da Corrente 93 e do Zos Kia Cultus. Assim, foi aberta uma nova fase de transfiguração de linhas e tons em P&B nos meus desenhos.

Em 1996, me casei com uma excepcional artista e filósofa, ela pode me orientar no campo artístico ajudando-me a aperfeiçoar os detalhes em precisão e harmonia apesar da assimetria incluída em meus quadros. Desde então, Lília Palmeira, vem gerenciando minha arte em direção a novos modelos de trabalho.

Em 1998, minha arte tomou novas dimensões de modo que eu pude perceber a irradiação de uma poderosa Corrente que eu sempre estive em contato, mesmo que não estivesse consciente disto. Na Tradição Oculta ela é chamada de “Transplutônica”, sua existência vem desde tempos imemoriais. Por volta daquele tempo obtive meus primeiros contatos com a O.T.O. Tifoniana (Ordo Templi Orientis ou Ordem Tifoniana Oculta). Em uma carta particular de Kenneth Grant, ele deu sua opinião concernente a minha arte: “Ela é muito forte, e apresenta um senso sutil de atmosfera”.

Ele enviou-me um panfleto anunciando uma publicação naquele tempo de seu mais novo livro sobre AOS, chamado Zos Speaks! Encounters with Austin Osman Spare para o meu desenvolvimento na arte oculta. E foi uma grata surpresa quando recebi sua resposta. Desde então, me tornei mais familiarizado com a arte de AOS, e foi assim que materializei de fato a minha entrada no Zos Kia Cultus, isto quer dizer, trilhando seu impulso e irradiação.

Hoje, vejo que minha arte seguiu em paralelo a minha carreira mágica certamente. Devido a minha entrega eu pude deliberar o curso correto tanto para o nanquim como para o grafita, meus desenhos aparecem através de um perfeito automatismo revelando de uma forma direta e sem interferência da mente uma forma pura que é traçada por meu Anelo, Vontade e Crença. Deste modo minha arte se revela em fantásticos reinos oníricos.

Meus desenhos retratam os extratos mais profundos do meu subconsciente, assim cada imagem valoriza formas impregnadas de espíritos que necessitam de pantáculos a fim de dar forma em cada folha servindo como uma complexa base ajudando nas suas manifestações, do invisível para o visível. Os traços são manifestados e direcionados por forças tangenciais de modo que elas estão situadas entre mundos oblíquos. Destas distantes e estranhas paisagens elas continuam a surgir de improváveis linhas as quais a chamo de algo fora de controle, além de nossas restrições ou “Atmosférico Fantástico Tangencial”.
